As we wound our way through tranquil Drumtochty Glen on Sunday morning, little did we know that in just a few hours time we would find ourselves posing for photos in the national dress of Kazakhstan. As we soon found out, Aizhan and Adam’s wedding was to be a day full of (fantastic) surprises…

The day began innocently enough. Aizhan and her sisters and friends were enjoying champagne, chocolates and chat when we arrived at the castle.

Aizhan is originally from Kazakhstan, and there were lots of lovely little touches throughout the day from her homeland.

It takes a brave person to iron a wedding dress – Aizhan’s sister did a perfect job.

Aizhan’s gorgeous dress was by Pronuptia – she found it while visiting her sister in Paris.

Aizhan looked incredible…

Meanwhile Adam was looking fantastic in Highland dress. His best man, Ewan flew in from Houston, Texas for the wedding.   Aizhan’s mum and uncle walked her down the aisle. The weather was perfect for the outdoor ceremony. The ceremony finished with the bridal party drinking whisky from a quaich, which is often referred to as the Scottish cup of friendship and love.  Who cares about a little rain when you have a helper like this!  We really enjoyed our shoot down by the water – here are a few favourites… Back at the castle, magician Kevin McMahon was keeping everyone entertained…  And then it was time for the Kazakh national dress to come out… We couldn’t resist having a go, while Aizhan and Adam were only too keen to have a shot of our cameras.  Image copyright of Aizhan. 😉 It was a very international occasion. Aizhan and Adam met while working together in Angola, and have travelled extensively. Their table plan was a world map, complete with flags.  The favours were another lovely Kazakh touch. Two of these little guys now have pride of place in our studio.  After dinner we explored the castle a little more… Aizhan’s mum gave her this gorgeous piece of jewellery, which is traditionally worn by brides in Kazakhstan.  ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz was a great choice for the first dance.  And everyone followed the newlywed’s lead and threw themselves into the dancing.  We left the dancers busting out their moves and headed up the Cairn o’ Mount to catch the last of the afterglow as the sun set over Aberdeenshire.

Aizhan & Adam – We had so much fun on Sunday, every time we think about it we smile! And you guys rocked the shoot – thanks for being such stars and for a wonderful day.
